The Cat-Proof, Child-Proof Toilet Paper Guard is a fully enclosed cover that goes onto the toilet paper holder you already have. Drop a standard and most Mega rolls inside, screw the cap on, and hang the whole thing on your mount the same way you'd hang a bare roll. The paper comes out through a narrow rounded slot, and you pull it just like before.

What happens when the cat gets to it

• The guard is one smooth cylinder with a 9 mm slot. There is no roll edge to shred and nothing to hook a claw into.
• If they bat it, it spins, and the hanging TP tail winds itself back inside. The more they play, the less there is to play with.
• Getting the paper back is a two-second job: reach in through the finger port beside the slot, pinch, pull. Usually no cap off, no roll out.
• The only way in is the screw cap. It takes about three turns and a human hand.

Why this one

I read a lot of reviews of other cat-proof holders before designing this. The complaints were always the same, so this one is built around them:

• Nothing to mount. It hangs on the holder you already have. No box on the wall, no adhesive, no drilling, nothing to get ripped off.
• No lid to lift every time. The paper is always available through the slot; the cap only comes off to reload.
• Fully enclosed. Top, bottom and sides are all covered, not just a hood over the roll.
• No sharp edges. The slot and the finger port are rounded over, and the cap rim is scalloped so it's easy to grip.
• One moving part. It's a cylinder and a screw cap. There is nothing to break, jam or lose.

See how much is left

Two slits on each end let you see how much is left on the roll through the guard, so you know when it's time to reload without opening it.

Fits

• Standard rolls up to 4.9 in (125 mm) across and 4.2 in (106 mm) wide. Regular, double, and most MEGA rolls fit; MEGA XL rolls may not.
• Standard spring-loaded spindles (the springy rod), 1.1 in (28 mm) bore. Also slides over most single-post holders.
• You need at least 5.25 in (133 mm) between your holder's arms. Please measure before ordering.
• Guard size: 5.2 in (132 mm) across, 5.0 in (127 mm) long.

Made to order

3D printed to order in PETG in my home workshop, in matte black or off-white. Printed parts show fine layer lines; that's the nature of the material and part of the look. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.

The guard body and the screw cap. Your existing holder and spindle do the rest.

Honest notes

• It stops cats from unrolling, shredding and eating the roll. A determined cat can still bat the short tail that hangs out of the slot. The more they spin it, the more the toilet paper will retract and become less available to them.
• It is not a child lock. A child who can unscrew a jar lid can open it.
• Recessed in-wall holders and holders without a removable spindle won't work.
